https://soundcloud.com/brittany_blue_black_out/letter-to-junoDear Juno or any other pregnant person in this situation, My name is Brittany and I am a senior in high school. First off I would like to say the decisions you must make in your near future are hard and I commend you for being responsible and thinking over your options. Looking straight to abortion as a first resort to deal with your problems is in my opinion irresponsible and selfish. Taking the time to read this letter already shows me you care which gives me respect for you no matter what decision you make.
I am pro life in the aspect that I believe that a baby is a child in the very moment of conception and has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This scripture from the bible is one of the reasons I believe this. “I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5. My faith in the word of God leads me to believe even before conception you are important to God and thats why am anti abortion. I am not religious just spiritual. I do not like religious people more specifically religious Christians who claim to know the word of God. Yet they sit out in front of abortion clinics and preach words of hate and judgment. My job as a Christian is to love and not judge people and try to change them. So, though if you make the decision to get a abortion I do not agree with it but after it is done if my friend was in this situation I would stand by them and give them the same amount of love I had for them before the procedure I would still have for her after it.
Sure everyone has a right to privacy according to the 14th amendment, but I do not think it is a justification for being allowed to abort your child. This is because I feel for many people, especially teems it is a legal excuse for people to not deal with their consequences of being a sexual active person. I feel like this was the case for the Roe v. Wade decision. Roe was a young adult who did not take the precautions necessary to ensure she and her partner would not get pregnant. There fore she should take care of the child or give it up for adoption. In other situation such as pregnancy due to rape is a completely different story. A woman does not ask to be put in such a terrible situation and I would never look down on anyone who did not think they could handle giving birth let alone taking care of a child who is 50% your rapist. If someone was able to go through with the birth that is wonderful I would just hope that they would be able to love that child properly. I know someone who kept a child after she was raped and ended hating the child and not taking care of him the way a mother should making not only her life harder but his too. In situations like that I recommend adoption but once again would completely respect a abortion. Also abortions due to medical reasons is something I respect as well. I think woman who keep their child no matter the consequence to them have really incredible amazing love that you can not even find in some mothers who have already given birth to their little ones.
With saying all of that if I had a chance to vote pro life or pro choice right in this very moment I would vote for pro choice and this is why. Juno I respect the decision you made because I think it was the best for you and the baby on top of it being a blessing to another. Sure I am a Christian and I look at abortion as a last resort, but I think any decent human should view abortion as a last resort, but. Given your maturity level I do not think keeping the baby would be a good idea So, in your case I strongly believe adoption was perfect. Even if you would of went through with the abortion I would have respected that decision as well, but only if you would had given it some serious thought and had weighed the pros and cons of each decision. I always prefer life over death but I believe everyone has a free will and has a right to exercise it. There are only three options when dealing with this predicament and I think you made the right one for you and the child. My mom was pregnant with me at 17 and I am so glad she kept me. On the other hand I know people who have made the decision to abort their child and in the long run they were successful and had other healthy children in the future. That might not have been the case if they would have kept the child. I also have many friends who were adopted and have fantastic parents and are living happy healthy lives. You have the play the cards you are dealt and if you play them right everything could turn out for the best. I have also heard of stories where people have made any of the following three decisions and they did not go as well. So it is not like one is better than the other it just depends on the situation. PI do hope you have learned a lesson from all of this though. I am preaching abstinence. Sex is not something that should be taken lightly. Sex is not just a physical attraction, but it is an emotional connection as well. I do believe though no matter how much people say that teens will do what they please, or or rather I say what gives them pleasure. So I part with this last piece of advice if you cant keep you legs closed, and tell Bleecker if he can not keep his pants on at least educate yourself before hand. We all make mistakes, but its what we learn from them that really counts.
